About The Album

Put something new in your Christmas stocking. This CD offers a unique blend of Christmas classics sprinkled with four new holiday songs.

Sylvia Bennett loves Christmas time and it has been a dream of hers to put together a group of holiday songs in a contemporary approach that uplifts and wraps you up in the Christmas Spirit.

It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett features holiday favorites like Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow, and, her personal favorite, The Christmas Song. Sylvia co–wrote three of the four new songs. Each song was inspired by the colors, lights and the spirit of giving and what a great gift it is to be able to share it. The greatest gift of all, besides the physical presents, is the gift of love that we all share with the hope that the Christmas Spirit lasts throughout the year.

Reviews

“Bennett very capably performs both old and new seasonal favorites, some in surprising ways. Her gospel driven “Silent Night” is a delight. “Silver Bells” boasts a contemporary country treatment that is quite appealing.”

“The holidays are just a heartbeat away at this point... and it’s time to relinquish to the cheer! To help you do just that, IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME WITH SYLVIA BENNETT... the lovely songstress that accompanied Lionel Hampton through the years. Sylvia shines on the classic Christmas carols, favorites for sure. She jazzes up “Winter Wonderland” and “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” featuring Ed Calle on sax… she reaches deep into her soul for “Silent Night,” hips to the hop on “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and sings the tinsel out of “The Christmas Song.” In addition you will find four original holiday tunes on IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME WITH SYLVIA BENNETT... this is the first Yule release we are directing your attention to. It’s never too early to light up for the holidays!”

I’m not going to lie. I am one of those people who doesn’t care much for Christmas music. When this package arrived in my mailbox, I remember looking at the concrete wall and telling myself I would get around to it at some point.

However, I must admit that there is a smooth, silky vocal at work on “It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett.“ Blending classics with originals, Bennett offers a beautiful voice to the performances of songs most people I know cherish. While the album is purely Christmas, for those interested in such its one of the better ones I have seen. The renditions of the classics (like “Winter Wonderland” and “Silver Bells”) are smooth, traditional croonings with a lot of vocal power. The arrangements are technically sound, and at times enthusiastically fruitful (like the rendition of “Let it Snow! Let it Snow Let it Snow!”). Furthermore, songs like “A Rainbow Christmas” offer Bennett a chance to show off a grand vocal presence.

For those in search of well–orchestrated Christmas music, this might just be what you were looking for in the adult contemporary holiday line.
